Weirded Out

I was out on the road today traveling westbound on 580 heading into the San Francisco Bay Area, and was in Livermore when I saw something really odd.

There was a convoy of military trucks pulling flatbeds heading east. If you saw this, or even better, have a photo of the event please contact me. I wasn't able to whip out my camera in time.

The flatbeds were loaded with rolled canvas, and the canvas looked an awful lot like they could have been the panels for GP (general purpose) tents. If you're not sure what I'm talking about, think of those really big tents like on the television show MASH.

I arrived home and began perusing the 'net to see what I had missed while I exchanged eight hours of my life for a few pieces of paper.

Look what I found:

DHS Sets Guidelines For Possible Swine Flu Quarantines

Coincidence? Maybe. Something other than tents on the flatbeds? Maybe.

I did get this photo a while back (I mentioned it to American Prepper Tom, but never had a context to post it)....does anyone know where they're all going?

If anyone out there has armor experience, aren't the mounts for the commander's 50 removed during shipment? Could you clarify that for me, please? If you click on the picture, you will get a full size image, and you can see the mounts for the 50s still in place. Thanks!

Why is it that quarantines and FEMA Camps have the same image in my head I wonder? Maybe one in the same in the near future.

As for the mounts for the 50 cal.s, they are still there that is clear. Not sure they would need to be removed for shipping though.

Dragon,

Thanks for the explanation. Are they pulling the M1s from service?

Bullseye,

Strange days, buddy. Strange days.

Cygnus,

I hope you won't be staying in a tent unless it is by choice.

Wish I could help but don't know much about tanks and such - don't much like all the military movements going on lately though.

As former tank mechanic, I can answer some of your questions.

The mounts stay on during rail movement.

They appear to be coming from storage. I base this observation on the fact that there is no gear in the bustle racks or spare track blocks attached to the bustle racks. It also looks like there are no unit markings (bumper numbers)on the tanks either. Also the guards on the drive sprockets are usually not there on actively deployed tanks.

Hey MilSpec, thanks so much for the information.

So, it would appear then that these are new units being placed into service.
