We Have An Extra 9,200 Pathogens

I've heard from friends in the military that when they went on maneuvers, if they had ordnance that wasn't used in the exercises, they'd bury it in the desert. It was alleged that it was more troublesome to track and log the unused material back into the system.

I can't testify as to how accurate or exaggerated those statements are, but I have no reason to doubt the sources.

Fort Detrick, Maryland was tasked with inventorying their stocks of infectious disease agents after some irregularities were noted in February. Four extra vials of Venezuelan Equine Encephalitis were found when there should have been sixteen.

The FBI has long held that Ft. Detrick was the source of the anthrax that was used on the mail attacks on the capital in the wake of 9/11.

After a months long probe and inventory of the site, officials stated they found over 9,000 vials of things like Ebola that were not counted. In other words, they have no way to know what has left the site either through accident or more sinister means.

Col. Mark Kortepeter, Deputy Commander, likened the survey to "cleaning out the attic".

Sorry, Col. The stuff in my attic isn't likely to enable a nut job to wipe out a city. If the stuff in your attic would interest a terrorist, maybe someone should visit your home.

So, what does this mean to you?

Allegedly this is a "Level Four Biosafety" facility. If a guy could get out of there with Anthrax samples, as the FBI continues to allege, what else has left? Especially if no one there even knows what was there in the first place?

Keep in mind what happened back in February.

Remember, the cops don't catch everyone. If they did, there would be no crime. There are many unguarded border crossings between here and Canada, and the Mexican border... Yes, you hear me laughing.
