Off The Grid: Nick Rosen
Nick Rosen is the editor of the website Off-Grid.net.
One of the people interviewed is Eustace Conway. Eustace Conway walked away from civilization at age 17, and began living in the Appalacians completely off-grid. A book, (read first chapter at this link) The Last American Man, was written about Eustace and his 20 year journey.
Youtube features an interview with Eustace and some others met along the way as he traveled across America on horseback. It is advertised as a 5 part interview, but I was unable to locate the fifth part. It is a fascinating interview even missing the last part.

Mexico wants to patrol American Streets

I have a serious problem with this. Mexico can't even patrol its own streets, and now they want to patrol our streets?

79 Americans were killed by Mexicans in Mexico in 2009. Read the article here. How much do you hear about that? That's killed, not just attacked.
Lord, talk about yellow journalism. I mean "yellow" as in "coward" as they are obviously too afraid of appearing racist if they put the shoe on the other foot.

When the concept of mandatory "volunteer" work became a requirement for graduation in many California high schools, the writing was on the wall. Kids have to provide, in some cases, up to thirty hours of uncompensated time in order to receive their diploma.
And now this.
I know its been out for a week or so floating around in the blogosphere, but I had to digest it, and actually get my emotions back under control.

And, guess what? The draft is back.....
"to authorize the induction of persons in the uniformed services during wartime to meet end-strength requirements of the uniformed services, and for other purposes".
Your daughter, wife or sister gets to be shipped off somewhere now too...
SEC. 201. REGISTRATION OF FEMALES.
(a) Registration Required- Section 3(a) of the Military Selective Service Act (50 U.S.C. 453(a)) is amended--
(1) by striking ‘male’ both places it appears;
(2) by inserting ‘or herself’ after ‘himself’; and
(3) by striking ‘he’ and inserting ‘the person’.
(b) Conforming Amendment- Section 16(a) of the Military Selective Service Act (50 U.S.C. App. 466(a)) is amended by striking ‘men’ and inserting ‘persons’.
If they aren't acceptable for military service, I'm sure they'll enjoy time in such garden spots as Haiti (the world has apparently forgotten about the earthquake, guess it just isn't sexy enough for politicians and the corporate media anymore), or cleaning up toxic spills like BP's mess down in the gulf. Years later, when they develop cancer or other problems, I'm sure ObamaCare will be right there to hand them an aspirin and a band-aid.

SEC. 107. DEFERMENTS AND POSTPONEMENTS.
(c) Training Capacity- The President may postpone or suspend the induction of persons for military service under this title as necessary to limit the number of persons receiving basic military training and education to the maximum number that can be adequately trained.
Completely, and totally arbitrary. Actually, maybe it will depend on campaign contributions.
Oh, what do you want to bet they'll use this next section to forcibly medicate people, and take away their ability to own guns?
SEC. 108. INDUCTION EXEMPTIONS.
(a) Qualifications- No person may be inducted for military service under this title unless the person is acceptable to the Secretary concerned for training and meets the same health and physical qualifications applicable under section 505 of title 10, United States Code, to persons seeking original enlistment in a regular component of the Armed Forces.
I'm really getting sick of this shit. I want my country back, and I damn well mean to take it. If you're an elected "representative", an appointed bureaucrat, or even the damned president, fuck you, and fuck whatever horse you rode in on. You ain't an American, and you don't belong here.

I ran across other stories and websites highlighting Neyvas. The websites that were not advertisements, or shill sites, seemed to hold Neyvas in poor light.
Seems like Laser Energetics picked the right company for propaganda.
Didn't Taser say its products were completely safe? The stories in the media about people having seizures and heart attacks appear to indicate otherwise.
So, what do you do?

I wonder who has gold......
Gold Coin Sellers Angered By New Tax Law
Buried in health care reform legislation was this gem, Section 9006. (<---link downloads PDF off democrat's senate website ) It modifies the scope of the 1099 form to include reporting of sales and purchases of gold. Back in1933, Executive Order 6102 was issued that required Americans surrender to the Federal Reserve (then, and still today, a privately held corporation) any gold coin, bullion or certificates in excess of $100.00. That meant that Americans could "theoretically" hold onto up to five ounces of gold, or five $20.00 gold pieces. Gold was roughly $20.00 an ounce in that day.
Why let Americans hold onto some gold?
If you're a parent, have you ever tried to take your kids' Halloween candy away? You know you're going to loot it for the Three Musketeers bars, and your kid knows it too. But if you let him hold onto a few pieces.....its suddenly not that much of a fight, especially when you tell him you're really only looking out for his best interests.

Stories are often told of Americans not turning in their gold, and hiding it or moving it offshore. There is nothing definitive to state absolutely that this did, or did not, happen. I would suspect that the wealthy would move their gold offshore, and I would suspect that many more freedom minded Americans either did not turn in, or only turned in a fraction of their holdings. It would seem to be the case as the Feds allegedly collected only 1/3 of the estimated gold coinage and certificates in circulation.
The reason for the discrepancy can be put down to debasement (coins melted for other purposes), coins not in the US, or loss. Even with some people holding the permitted five ounces, seems pretty difficult for 2/3 of the gold in circulation to fall into this category. Although some make the case that the remaining gold in circulation would be easily absorbed, in the permitted amount, by the adult population.
Everyone wonders why people would not turn in their gold even when there was a stiff fine ($10,000.00), and a prison term (ten years) for not doing so.

Its really very simple. Americans are smarter than most would like to give us credit for. Governments are temporary. Gold is forever. Many people outlive their governments.
Remember back in 2008 when Bush dusted off the gold confiscation laws? It's hidden away in the Patriot Act. Read this thread to refresh your memory.
The oligarchs in power realize what a razors edge they tread. They're doing this in an increments to keep people asleep and distracted. If they announced in one fell swoop what is going to happen, there would be open revolt.
With the IRS involved, you can bet there will be a more efficient database maintained noting who has how much, and where. If it comes time to turn the gold in, you better have every grain....or else....

A License To Blog + Files
Yet, that's just about what happened last week when the United States Federal Government shut down an estimated 73,000 blogs. Obama and his henchmen said to the American Public, "I don't like what you're doing, and I don't care how many people we are going to hurt or inconvenience to shut you up."
And just like the BP oil spill, 9/11, Waco and Ruby Ridge, Kennedy's Assassination, Pearl Harbor, and any other coverup, they're going to keep lying and changing the story until they find one that "resonates" with most of the sheeple.
Is it so far fetched that in the near future, those of us who want to remain online posting whatever strikes our fancy, will need approval from The Ministry Of Blogging? (The MoB for short). Seriously, think about it. We have a mob, a criminal syndicate, running this country. Everything and everyone from the banks to the cops on the street hold us hostage.

No, I'm not. Think about it.
Did you know that governments used to actually regulate paupers ( poor). The paupers used to have to wear a badge with the letter "P" on it. People who would hire them for day labor could ONLY employ them in certain trades. Anyone know the origin of the names "Bareman / Bairman"?
Oh, I'm sorry, did I say "used to regulate the poor"?
Believe it or not, what we know today as "welfare" has existed in this country from colonial times. It used to be called "poor relief". It was funded by taxation.
But there was a problem. this country was nothing but naked opportunity and only the intentionally indolent would remain poor. Even indentured servants from Europe and some slaves managed to free themselves from their obligations often within four years. That was how great the opportunity was.
So, how do you keep a class of "poor" around? To make sure money keeps flowing into the government coffers?
You make it so they can't get out of the hole.
Sound familiar?
Throughout history, governments have used various means to control populations. The reasons varied, but often came down to money, wealth, and how to get it to the top and away from the middle and lower ends of the populace.
Many of us know about the "Stamp Act" imposed upon the colonies by England. Often, the act is discussed only in its purely economic impact. The act was also an attempt by England's elite to reign in America's spirit. People were becoming too wealthy too quickly, and less dependent on the aristocracy. Every month, more people from all around Europe were flooding into the colonies.
How wealthy were the colonies? Women were living into their sixties! Those were "commoners" as royalty called them. That rivaled the life expectancy of the elite in Europe! Remember, this was the 1700's. The average life expectancy in Europe for the commoner was 35 to 40!
The Stamp Act was a social attempt to dampen emigration from Europe by making the New World less attractive to those considering it. If taxes were brought on par with those in Europe, what would be the point is risking your life making an ocean crossing, and having to carve out a place in the wilderness? Fewer people were also easier to manage, and trouble makers would be easier to rout.
It would also give time for the elites in Europe to gain control of the resources in this new land for themselves. As it stood, they didn't have a system of control in place, and freemen were taking what they believed rightfully belonged to them. Remember, the elites initially viewed the New World as a place to rid themselves of troublesome entities.
The elite also believed if people had less wealth, they would be more obedient to the King. A theory that had been proved over centuries of feudal rule in Europe.
England had, in effect, started a socioeconomic war with the people in the colonies. That war would escalate into what is known as "The Boston Tea Party", and eventually The American War Of Independence.
We have been gradually exposed to greater controls over the years. You have the RIGHT to own personal property. Yet you must buy a license to own personal property (You bought the car, but you pay the state for the privilege of owning it. You have to pay even more if you want to use it.)
You have a right to travel. You must have a license to travel. If you are unable to provide documentation to satisfy an officer of the state as to who you are, and why you are there, you can be arrested and detained. Now indefinitely under new "anti-terrorism" laws.
You have the right to own ARMAMENT (read the Second Amendment). NOT JUST FIREARMS. What is armament? Everything from an atlatl to a Zumwalt class destroyer. But the state will only agree to let you own some firearms. Depends on what best supports their position. That changes from state to state, county to county, city to city, day to day, and court case to court case.
Its time to recognize the whole "gun rights" thing is a red herring. They've already destroyed the Second Amendment and reduced everyone to wielding pea shooters.
You must have a license to wed. Marriage was once the realm of the Church. Look at the origin of the whole concept of the marriage license in English based law. Do you agree with that? Where are the nut jobs screaming about the "separation of church and state"?
You have to have a license to operate a radio station. Did you know that wasn't always the case? Seems too many people were talking out of turn, and it needed "regulation".
We could go on listing any number of things that are NOT the business of the State, but yet they're working day and night to take away your rights. They'll make them conditional, privileges, or just outright strip you of them.
This year, they've already decided to control your health and your health care. You're living too long after you get off that treadmill. The money you spend to make sure you stay healthy and live long enough to see your grand kids have families of their own, is money they think belongs in their pocket.
Hell, they're not even going to wait for you to croak before helping themselves to what you've worked for all your life.

Your money isn't safe in a bank. I had a bank last year declare two accounts "dormant" after three months of inactivity. The bank locked us out of the accounts and we had to go into the bank in order to straighten things out.
How long before one of the nutcases in Washington seizes upon this idea in order to prop up his sagging poll numbers?
I'm seriously thinking about closing all but one bank account, and only keeping the bare minimum in it needed to handle monthly expenses. Everything left over comes out and gets converted into hard assets.
This is just unreal.
It's already happened in California on a state level.

The End: Stories of TEOTWAWKI
Its kind of hard to see when you're living through it. Many people envision TEOTWAWKI as some kind of "Mad Max" movie or maybe a catastrophic event like "The Day After Tomorrow".
But yet, its here. All around you. The world of tomorrow will not be the world of today. Every day, the world we knew is a little further in the past, and something radically different is getting closer.
TEOTWAWKI has happened. Over and over, all around the planet. It's reach spreading like a cancer. Most people never noticed it. But now its in the faces of Americans, and its hard to ignore. Here's a preview of what we can look forward to.
Hashima, Japan. An entire island lays abandoned. You'd think that with the value of land being at such a premium, that would be unthinkable. Yet, here it is.
Yashima, Japan. An entire mountain top city lies abandoned. Shops and stores still stocked with goods for people who will never come.
There are cities all over the world that lay abandoned, from France, to Russia. From Italy to the Ukraine. From Taiwan to even here, in the United States.
Centralia, Pennsylvania is one of the most famous. An entire city is rapidly vanishing as nature reclaims what man had created here.
The reasons these places lie abandoned are surprisingly few. Mostly reduced to two reasons. Man made disaster or natural disaster. The man made disasters are primarily economic or environmental.
Today, here in this country, we are faced with some serious economic problems. For the people living on the Gulf Of Mexico, that is compounded by a serious environmental component, namely BP's oil spill.
As the economy has continued to slide since the 1970s, more and more places around America's industrial centers have fallen silent. People left. Places were forgotten
The decline really made itself noticed when, last year, Flint Michigan announced plans to abandon parts of the city. The cost of maintaining those areas was too much.
This year, we've already seen Maywood California basically strip all of the services away, and farm the police and maintenance out to other neighboring cities.
Now, TEOTWAWKI is expanding its reach beyond urban centers.

Its becoming increasingly difficult for small municipalities to raise the funds necessary to maintain roadways, and other services.

I think it has gotten beyond the argument of whether or not Barry is a "natural born citizen" as required by Paragraph 5, Section 1, Article 2, of the 14th Amendment.
Frankly, I think it is time we put this away, and just keep it on file for evidence to be used in the trials that will come before we start hanging traitors. More and more audio, and even video taped admissions from the parties involved in this fraud surface every day. Why?
Because they know we can't do anything about it. They control the law, law enforcement, and every branch of government. They're just laughing at us and rubbing our faces in it. They've carried out a coup d'etat without firing a shot, and they're counting on the fact that Americans continue to respect and adhere to the concept of law.
In point of fact, our Founding Fathers knew we are a just people, and that we would bear the burdens imposed upon us by the unjust. They knew, in advance, that we would be the good citizen, and told us that when the crushing burden of an overbearing government became too much, we had their blessings to turn upon that government.
all experience hath shewn, that mankind are more disposed to suffer, while evils are sufferable, than to right themselves by abolishing the forms to which they are accustomed.
Our forefathers gave us the right, and duty to rid ourselves of tyrants, unjust rulers, and usurpers. Our own Regnans in Excelsis is written into the Declaration of Independence.
We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all men are created equal, that they are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable Rights, that among these are Life, Liberty and the pursuit of Happiness. We need not "approval" from any person(s), agencies, churches, or groups. Our right is derived from a Higher Power, from even within ourselves, and our unshakable belief in the concept of Freedom and Liberty.
We are the new Guards spoken of in The Declaration of Independence. Our day has come.
We do not embark upon this course lightly. This is the path of last resort.
Thomas Jefferson wrote to John Randolph in November of 1775, "Believe me, dear Sir: there is not in the British empire a man who more cordially loves a union with Great Britain than I do. But, by the God that made me, I will cease to exist before I yield to a connection on such terms as the British Parliament propose; and in this, I think I speak the sentiments of America."
We can all say how much we love America, but we will not accept the America that is being foisted upon us by totalitarian forces. I think all of us would rather die than live in the America they have planned for us.
If we may prevail against this unjust host by spreading the facts, and not just the truth which is mutable, in regards to this attempt to destroy this nation, then we shall give thanks. If not, and force of arms must be resorted to, then it is a war that will have been chosen by those who stand ready to set the yoke of slavery upon our necks, and fetters of servitude upon our legs.

UPDATED - Articles To Read, and Stuff To Download
I've been spending quite a bit of time reading articles on the web, and unfortunately, that has left a dearth of time to read other folk's blogs and comment on their musings.
It is important that we all take the time and look around and not just bury ourselves in what tends to support ourselves in our convictions. Sometimes we can be wrong, or become wrong as situations change. It's important to continue thinking, and re-evaluating our circumstance. There's a wealth of information out there. Avail yourself of it.
I don't know how many of you have ever heard of The Root, a website dedicated to issues of Americans of African descent. I find it illuminating to read what is foremost in the minds of a segment of our population who still, even at this late hour, sometimes appear to feel like unwelcome guests at a party.
What causes me to mention The Root today is, "Should Black Folks Give The Tea Party A Second Look?"
Recently, the NAACP has taken the Tea Party to task for allegedly being a racist organization.
We've seen the photos and videos of Tea Party Rallies where Americans gather as Americans. There is no racial divide, as it should be. If you haven't, check these out. One, Two, Three, you know what? Just do an image search on Google if you want more examples.
I have to ask, doesn't the NAACP have racists within its own ranks? The name of the organization itself is racist, and exclusive.
Time to grow up people, and start realizing this is just another ploy to keep Americans, no matter who they are, from waking up, joining together, doing something about this situation, taking back control of this nation and its destiny. The Left, Right, Liberal, Conservative, Republican, Democrat, Socialist, Fascist machine will do anything to keep us fighting among ourselves and yoked to a political system that offers us only a Hobson's Choice.
The article in The Root encourages its readers to look past the diatribe from the NAACP concerning race and examine what the Tea Party, at its core, is attempting to do.

Shapiro was part of the Clinton Administration and served as an undersecretary of economic affairs in the Commerce Department. He was an an economic adviser to Clinton (CFR, Bilderberg, Trilateral Commission) during his campaign, and also to Al Gore (CFR), and John Kerry (CFR).
He is co-founder of the Progressive Policy Institute. Often the PPI is criticized by the left of being Neo-Cons, and not truly "progressive" (read that as socialist / communist) The PPI works cheek by jowl with the Democratic Leadership Council, another Neo-Con front, which promotes globalization. The DLC was instrumental in the passage of NAFTA and CAFTA.
Just as an aside, if the label "Neo-Con" is confusing because both ends of the political spectrum like the to throw the word at each other, that is their intention. They really don't want you to recognize what a threat Neoconservatism is to freedom. Read about Irving Kristol, its founder, a Trotskyist *Young People's Socialist League*( Trotsky was one of the first to proclaim himself an "Internationalist" ), a member of the Council On Foreign Relations, and a fellow of the American Enterprise Institute.
Once you understand exactly what Neoconservatism is, you'll see how the corporate interests of the Left and Right dominate American (and world) politics and use their position to extract the maximum wealth possible from everyone while denying them economic, social, and political freedom. Bear in mind that a corporation can be a *single* individual or family, and the corporation is just a front to hide behind.
Shapiro is co-chairman of American Task Force Argentina which was formed after Argentina defaulted on its sovereign debt in 2001. The default cost foreign government and investors an estimated $95 Billion to $140 Billion, and Argentina has balked at repaying the debt. Actually, they've more or less given the bird to New World Order and have gone about getting themselves back on track. Just nine years after the default, Argentina will soon be auctioning bonds on the international market to raise capital. Argentina is now getting real chummy with the Chinese and is in discussions regarding the construction of another nuclear facility.
Shapiro is also an adviser to Tony Blair (Bilderberg), Evan Bayh (Bilderberg), and Hillary Clinton (Bilderberg).

Home Made Penicillin
If you've followed the progress of big pharma, many excellent antibiotics have fallen out of favor either because one or two strains of a bug have developed a resistance to the drug, or because the patent ran out and it just wasn't profitable enough.
Many infections can still be effectively treated with such tried and true antibiotics such as penicillin.
If things keep heading down the drain, this may be very valuable information. Imagine if you can synthesize an antibiotic when no one else can. How valuable do you think that will be?
About the ingredients:
Lactose Monohydrate is commonly known as "milk sugar". It is available in health food stores, and online at places like E-bay and Amazon. Sometimes it is sold under simply "lactose powder".
Corn Starch shouldn't need any explanation. Available in grocery stores.
Sodium Nitrate available online and in chemistry supply stores.
Magnesium Sulfate is commonly known as "Epsom Salts" and is available in drug stores.
Monopotassium Phosphate is available online, and also in health food stores and drug stores.
Glucose Monohydrate (Dextrose) is available online and in health food stores.
Zinc Sulfate is available online and also in drug stores and health food stores.
Manganese Sulfate is available online and also in home improvement / hardware stores and gardening centers.
The liquid referred to before the outlined extraction process can be consumed or used as a topical antibacterial. If you seek to form a powdered, stable version of the drug, you will need to perform the extraction process.
HCL (Hydrochloric Acid) is also known as Muriatic Acid and is available in pool supply stores.
Ethyl Acetate is available online.
All of these substances are able to be grown, extracted and synthesized from common materials, so even if you run out of any stored ingredients you have put up, you can always make more of your own. Just do the research and put the processes away in your little notebook.
CULTURE OF PENICILLIN
USE ASEPTIC TECHNIQUE THROUGHOUT THIS PROCEDURE
Step 1
Prepare a penicillium culture by exposing a slice of bread or citrus peel to the air at 70 deg. F until a bluish-green mold develops.
Cut two slices of whole wheat bread into ½ inch cubes and place in a 750ml Erlenmeyer flask with a cotton (non-absorbent) plug. It is important that the bread does not contain any mold inhibitors such as “mycoban”. Sterilize the flask and contents in a pressure cooker for at least 15 minutes at 15 pounds. An alternate method is to place in an oven at 315 deg F for one hour.
Using a sterile transfer loop (flamed) transfer the spores from the bread or peel into the flask containing the bread cubes.
Allow the cubes to incubate in the dark at 70 deg F for 5 days. After incubation, store in the refrigerator for not longer than two weeks.
Step 2
Prepare one liter of the following media:
Lactose Monohydrate 44.0 gm
Corn Starch 25.0 gm
Sodium Nitrate 3.0 gm
Magnesium Sulfate 0.25 gm
Potassium Phosphate Mono 0.50 gm
Glucose Monohydrate 2.75 gm
Zinc Sulfate 0.044 gm
Manganese Sulfate 0.044 gm
Dissolve in order in 500ml of cold tap water and add sufficient cold tap water to make one liter.
Adjust pH to 5.0-5.5 using HCL. Fill a series of milk bottles with a quantity of this media. Use only enough media so that when the bottle is placed on its side the media will not touch the cotton plug.
Sterilize the bottles and media in a pressure cooker or stove as previously outlined. When cool, inoculate with spores from the bread cubes. Use approximately the equivalent of one tablespoon.
Allow bottles to incubate on their sides at 70 deg F for 7 days. It is important that the bottles are not disturbed during this time. At the end of 7 days if your culture is capable of producing penicillin it will be dispersed in the liquid portion of the media.
Filter fermentation media, plug with cotton and refrigerate immediately. Use as soon as possible.
Step 3
To extract the penicillin the following procedure may be attempted. Do the following technique as rapidly as possible.
Adjust the cold fermentation filtrate to pH 2.2 using .01/N HCL. Mix cold filtrate with cold ethyl acetate in a separatory funnel and shake well for 30 seconds.
Drain the ethyl acetate into a beaker which has been placed in an ice bath and repeat the process until all filtrate is depleted.
Add 1% potassium acetate and mix. Permit ethyl acetate (flammable) to evaporate. This can be induced by a constant flow of air over the top of the beaker.
The remaining crystals are a mixture of potassium penicillin and potassium acetate.
WARNING: DO THE EXTRACTION AS RAPIDLY AS POSSIBLE!
*authors note: potassium acetate is a preservative and is commonly used as an acidity regulator in processed foods. It'll help the penicillin last longer on the shelf provided it is kept in a dry, closed container and away from light and heat.

Oakland In The News.....again
The Oakland Police Department is getting ready to show the door to eighty officers, ( and as I write this, I hear the notices have gone out as talks have reportedly failed) and issued a list of crimes and incidents they will no longer respond to. Hey, nothing like handing out a laundry list to the criminal element and saying, "Here boys, do these things. We won't bother you."
Now Oakland has 776 uniformed officers and a population of around 400,000 give or take a few thousand illegal aliens. Oakland is another "sanctuary city" just like Maywood in Southern California.
Oakland is suffering from a serious budget shortfall, rising crime rates, businesses have fled the city. For years, Eastmont Mall was a veritable ghost town as stores loaded up their trucks in the dark of night and fled. At one point the mall had a 70% vacancy rate. It was one of the places I used to service equipment in, and we were warned not to be in the neighborhood once it started to get dark. Actually, that warning still stands.
Eventually, the Old JC Penny's location became part of the Alameda County Health Department (basically a social services center), and Mervyn's Department Store became a police station. Kind of tells you exactly what kind of place it was and still is to a large extent.
Downtown Oakland isn't much better, and the gentrified Clay Street area is starting to look worn, although it was a very nice attempt by the city to clean itself up.
The OPD released a partial list of crimes they will not respond to after the 80 officers were laid off. I'm sure many of you have seen it.

Epilogue: The Oakland (non) Riots
Mayberry often complains about his "computersaurus-rex", and I can empathize. Mine is probably slightly newer than his machine. However, the newest machine in the house belongs to the kid. She got the awesome quad core with the dual SLI linked video cards all built into a very girly pink case complete with matching pink mouse and keyboard.
Mine was built from cast off parts.

The last series of updates to XP did something somewhere, and even though I attempted to uninstall the updates (among other things), the problems continued and I was forced to re-image my machine with a back up copy. Then installing the software I use was a pain.
In doing so, I found that the new version of Firefox behaves oddly on certain websites with certain plug-ins installed. Eventually, I found that by turning off the hardware acceleration in Adobe's Flash Player, most of the bugs went away.
I have no explanation for why this is.
I still have more software suites to install and update, but at least I have access to all my drives now and can go to the web without the machine locking up.

If you followed the story of Oscar Grant, the unarmed man shot in the back by a thug hiding behind a badge, you know that a verdict of involuntary manslaughter was returned against the shooter by a Los Angeles jury.
After the verdict was returned, a number of people gathered in downtown Oakland to voice their displeasure at a system that is viewed as having failed the victim and the family left behind. The estimates I've read say that the number of peaceful protesters was somewhere between 800 and 1500 people.
The protests were uneventful, until after dark.
I'm not sure what the media around the rest of the country showed of the so-called Oakland Riots following the verdict, but it wasn't much of a riot. Local videos and photos often showed more curious people standing around (many with cameras) and media types watching the commotion than actual rioters. Most video seems to be centered around the looting of a shoe store by some opportunists.
Initially local stories carried numbers of " a thousand or more" rioters, but after it was all said and done, the number of people present seems to have coalesced around 500 to 800 within a six block area. That includes the curious, the protesters and the rioters together. The number of arrested seems to have settled around 80.
Police in riot gear from 15 agencies as far away as Sacramento, California descended into Oakland to prepare for expected large scale rioting such as that which followed the Rodney King verdicts. The Oakland Police has declined to state exactly how many officers were on the street during "Operation Verdict", but witnesses say that it was in the hundreds. A command post was established at the Port Of Oakland, and the National Guard was put on alert as well.
Following the Rodney King verdicts, rioting rocked Los Angeles for six days, and by its end had seen blocks of businesses looted and burned. 53 people died, thousands were injured, and an estimated $1 Billion in damages occurred.
In contrast, a Footlocker shoe store, a Subway sandwich shop, and a jewelry store were looted or damaged in Oakland. A few small fires were started in trash bins, and some city and police vehicles were damaged. Oh yeah, a few walls were spray painted, but that happens every night in Oakland.
If you watch the videos (three below), it is obvious the people participating in the looting are opportunists and not really interested in the issue of Grant's verdict.
So, what does this mean?
Hundreds of police are unable to protect three shops from opportunistic looters.
Does that really bode well for serious domestic unrest? Most of us can smell it coming as things continue to deteriorate.
An unnatural calm following an extremely emotionally upsetting verdict. This is especially noteworthy when it was revealed that the judge, Robert Perry who presided over the Johannes Mehserle trial, was allegedly involved in the police cover-ups regarding the Rampart Scandal. To top it off, Judge Perry took the choice of 1st Degree Murder away from the jury, tried to invoke the California Policeman's Bill Of Rights (removes prior misconduct from testimony), put a gag order into effect, and allegedly worked to exclude blacks from the jury pool (Mehserle's attorney, Michael Rain wanted blacks excluded....the sitting jury did not have a single black). The people of Oakland were well aware of Mehserle's previous attack on an engineer, Kenneth Carrethers and stories of Mehserle brandishing his taser and threatening people.
Uh, yeah, that is really very scary. Either people just don't care (wanna buy a bridge?) or something is building that will explode.
