Coffee: $78.00 for 7/10 of a pound

Check out Food Price Projections at the site, and make sure you click on the link inside the article for their special report.

Already many of us have seen some indication of rising prices at the super market. It is imperative, if you are able, to stock up on staple items like corn meal, sugar, flour and similar items.

If you can't afford to spend a ton of money on all of the items at once, consider a group purchase with friends, family members, or like minded church members. If you pool your resources and arrange a bulk purchase through your local market, you may get a better deal.

Discuss this possibility with your compatriots and then approach the store manager of your local market.

If you are in a larger urban area, or even a suburban area, look for the local "Brown Bag" programs. Here in California, call 1-800-510-2020 to find a near by distribution center. Similar programs are run in other states.

If you are unfamiliar with "Brown Bag" programs, these programs distribute food stuffs to those 60 and over free of charge. There is often no means testing, and frequently from what I have heard, many of the foodstuffs go unwanted. The food is often donated by local markets as they get close to code date (not yet expired) or are surplus.

Even if you are well off and do not need to take advantage of such programs, I'm sure you know of some who could use the extra help, and it is a good way to stock extra supplies for the future. This program is often the end of the line for the items being distributed, and they are either discarded or returned to the vendor for disposal if unclaimed.

Please be sure to follow safe food storage procedures. A very good FAQ for those interested in long term storage can be found HERE. At the top of the page are links to get the same FAQ in PDF or in Microsoft Word Rich Text format.
