WASHINGTON – Vice President Joe Biden — with a well-deserved reputation as someone who shoots from the lip — made it through the first 100 days of the Obama administration without any major gaffes. But on Day 101 the vice president, well, took a nose dive when it came to the government's talking points on air travel during the swine flu outbreak.

At 7:05 a.m. Thursday, Biden was asked on NBC's "Today" show what advice he would give to a family member who was considering flying to Mexico.

"I would tell members of my family — and I have — I wouldn't go anywhere in confined places now," Biden said. "It's not that it's going to Mexico. It's you're in a confined aircraft. When one person sneezes, it goes all the way through the aircraft." Biden went on to say he wouldn't suggest that they ride the subway either.

Avoid all airline travel? Don't ride the subway?

Cue the backpedaling.

At 8:47 a.m., Biden's office put out a statement gamely trying to rewrite the vice president's words:

"The advice he is giving family members is the same advice the administration is giving to all Americans: that they should avoid unnecessary air travel to and from Mexico," said Biden spokeswoman Elizabeth Alexander. "If they are sick, they should avoid airplanes and other confined public spaces, such as subways."

By 10 a.m., Homeland Security chief Janet Napolitano had supplied her own do-over for the VP:
"If he could say that over again, he would say if they're feeling sick they should stay off of public transit or confined spaces because that is indeed the advice that we're giving," Napolitano said on MSNBC.

New York Mayor Michael Bloomberg, who takes the subway to work every day, also tried to channel the vice president.

"I think what Joe Biden was talking about was, it is true if you have all these symptoms, we recommend you stay home," Bloomberg said.

White House press secretary Robert Gibbs also tried to close the gap that Biden left between "what he said and what he meant to say."

"If anybody was unduly alarmed for whatever reason, we would apologize for that," Gibbs added.

The people who provide and promote travel on planes and trains were not amused.
There was "extreme disappointment." There was talk of "fear-mongering." There was gentle scolding. There was clarification.

For the record, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention's Web site says this: "CDC has NOT recommended that people avoid travel at this time."

It does recommend that people avoid nonessential travel to Mexico, the flu's epicenter, and that those who are sick stay home.

With Biden's track record of impolitic remarks, it was only a matter of time before he found himself trying to eat his words as vice president.

President Barack Obama knew that going in. He praised his running mate's candor and made light of Biden's penchant for "rhetorical flourishes."

When they were still presidential rivals, Biden apologized for describing Obama as "articulate" and "clean," remarks that some thought had racial overtones.

Biden also had to defend his remark that "you cannot go to a 7-Eleven or a Dunkin' Donuts unless you have a slight Indian accent."

He has been surprisingly disciplined since the inauguration — although when he joked about Chief Justice John Roberts flubbing Obama's oath of office, Obama didn't crack a smile.

That's just Joe.

"Sometimes maybe I shouldn't be as straightforward as I am," Biden said Sunday on CBS' "60 Minutes."

"I am who I am."

Weirded Out

I was out on the road today traveling westbound on 580 heading into the San Francisco Bay Area, and was in Livermore when I saw something really odd.

There was a convoy of military trucks pulling flatbeds heading east. If you saw this, or even better, have a photo of the event please contact me. I wasn't able to whip out my camera in time.

The flatbeds were loaded with rolled canvas, and the canvas looked an awful lot like they could have been the panels for GP (general purpose) tents. If you're not sure what I'm talking about, think of those really big tents like on the television show MASH.

I arrived home and began perusing the 'net to see what I had missed while I exchanged eight hours of my life for a few pieces of paper.

Look what I found:

DHS Sets Guidelines For Possible Swine Flu Quarantines

Coincidence? Maybe. Something other than tents on the flatbeds? Maybe.

I did get this photo a while back (I mentioned it to American Prepper Tom, but never had a context to post it)....does anyone know where they're all going?

If anyone out there has armor experience, aren't the mounts for the commander's 50 removed during shipment? Could you clarify that for me, please? If you click on the picture, you will get a full size image, and you can see the mounts for the 50s still in place. Thanks!

Mexican Reports On Flu: Media Painting Rosy Picture?

Mexican Reports: Flu Much Worse Than Reported

Genetically Modified Flu

Several posts ago, I posited that this flu was a wee bit too convenient. It was a hunch based on available data at the time.

Now it appears that perhaps my hunch was correct.

The OIE (Organisation Mondiale de la Sante Animale), the preeminent animal health organization, has stated in this press release:

"It is not a classical human influenza virus called seasonal influenza, which causes every year millions of human cases of influenza worldwide but a virus which includes in its characteristics swine, avian and human virus components."

The press release further states:

"The virus has not been isolated in animals to date. Therefore, it is not justified to name this disease swine influenza."

Well, well, well....

We have a virus that mixes components of swine, avian, and human influenzas. Unless I miss my guess, I don't think there have been any reported cases in Mexico of people having sex with pigs in a chicken coop. If anyone has video, make sure you call Geraldo Rivera and Larry Flint, get a bidding war going.

So, just how did this happen?

Maybe Baxter was involved? Remember back in February of this year, Baxter released LIVE Avian H5N1 virus samples mixed in with Human H3N2 virus. Of course, the vials that were released to make flu shots were not labeled as having contained the Avian Flu virus. That was only discovered AFTER those flu shots were administered to over thirty people.

When this "accidental" release occurred Baxter was waiting for a Europe wide license to market and distribute an "Avian Flu Vaccine" it had developed. What a waste of research money if the "Bird Flu" never developed, much like the "Swine Flu" non-epidemic of 1976. Maybe someone decided that the marketing campaign just needed a little push...say, maybe thirty people coming down with the "Bird Flu".

Coincidence? You be the judge.

Sources: Toronto Sun, 27 Feb 2009 Yahoo Canada Wed, 25 Feb 2009

Maybe it was those always fun eggheads in the government labs.

The original "Swine Flu" non-epidemic of 1976 began at Fort Dix, New Jersey. Fort Dix is just a jaunt south of the infamous Plum Island. Rumors of bio-weapon experimentation at Plum Island go back years, with some people making references to it in the vein of "The Island Of Doctor Moreau". The Montauk Monster is rumored to have originated on the island with some dismissing the odd creature simply as a dead canine. What is important to note here is that soldiers have frequently been used as guinea pigs without their knowledge. Everything from studying the effects of radiation, and fallout, to nerve gas and experimental drugs. These issues are mainstream news.

What makes any of us think that they would not use an experimental bio-weapon on soldiers? Maybe testing a few hundred soldiers wasn't enough. Maybe they examined what happened back in 1976 and decided a larger field test was required to examine the propagation of the disease.

Or maybe...(sinister music playing)

This is a planned release with South American Countries and their populations being the target.

Now stick with me here.

We're at the end of the North American flu season. The available sunlight is increasing along with the ambient levels of UV radiation. UV light kills viruses which will limit the spread of the contagion. People spend more time out doors, and thus the levels of sun produced vitamin D increases in their bodies, making infection by the flu virus less likely.

Not so for those south of the equator, where they're beginning the plunge into their winter. The flu loves the cold, dark days with people crowded together indoors where it can spread like a wildfire. Pehaps Hugo Chavez has pissed someone off with his chummy behavior with the Russians and the Chinese.

Maybe the true propagation path is southward, and the few aberrant cases north of the border are just collateral damage and plausible deniability. Maybe it was given a good head start in Mexico in order to make that nation a wee bit more quiescent as it spins onward to full scale civil disorder.

You never know, the Mexican government may have released this on its own people. Mexico is an oligarchy and I'm sure the ruling families are loathe to lose their control to a group of feuding thugs known as the drug cartels, or even worse, the average people.

Our friends at Baxter are working on a vaccine as we speak. I'm sure it will be ready by the time we begin our slide into winter and the next flu season, if it isn't already. Maybe the timeline is just to make things look good. It wouldn't sit well with the conspiracy minded among us to see a vaccine just "magically" appear overnight.

Not to mention, they'd have to administer it to people who probably can't pay for it. No worries, I'm sure we, the American Taxpayer, would somehow get stuck with the bill. Just like the $15 Billion that went to Africa for AIDS.

Other points to consider: The faltering economy has taken a back seat to this story. The Somali Pirates have taken a back seat. The drug wars have taken a back seat. Illegal immigration has sort of taken a back seat. Obama's machiavellian schemes for domination have taken a back seat. Can you think of other things that have faded from view?

A Silver Lining?

Perhaps there's a silver lining to this in a manner of speaking. If we can get the vast majority of people out there to start referring to this as the "GM Flu" (genetically modified flu) and a GMO (genetically modified organism), there is the possibility that the public will make the connection with GM foods, or "Franken-foods".

This could possibly create a public backlash against Monsanto and other purveyors of things like part tomato / part fish type things that look like tomatoes. If people get the idea that there is a serious downside to genetically modified organisms, this could prove to be a public relations nightmare for these agri-giants, and will be better publicity than any money could have bought.

Stop referring to this as the "Swine Flu" since it has yet to have appeared in any pigs, and start calling it for what it is, the "GM Flu".

Preview Of Tomorrow

The below video came by way of TruthOut. If you visit the site, use your filters. Some of the stuff there is pretty heavily skewed politically. It seems to have originally come from The Nation, another left leaning publication. I came across it while researching a disturbing trend here in cash strapped America. It seems some local municipalities are beginning to turn to independent security contractors as an inexpensive replacement for sworn police officers whom they intend to lay off.

I think these images warranted its own post

This particular video highlights the actions of white vigilantes on black people accused of looting, but it could just have as easily been looters versus looters, or neighbors with grudges, or families with bad blood. What you need to pay attention to is the overall climate.

What I would like all of you to think about is how quickly things can go sideways when society falls apart. You need to very seriously think about cooperating with like minded people in your immediate community.

The video references a production entitled "Welcome To New Orleans" It can be viewed here on Google Video. There's quite a bit of political agitprop in the production, but again people need to view how callously everyday people are treated by government representatives, and how violence erupts in the absence of law enforcement. There's a very obvious racial component to the video that is disturbing, as are the images of a dead man left laying under a pile of sheet metal.

The production is an hour long, and is sometimes turgid, but in my opinion, worth watching.

Again, this is not being presented to you as some type of indictment of the action or inaction in the wake of Katrina or the state of race relations in America. It is simply a very visual representation of what happens when civil order breaks down. We often see these types of things on the news, but it is very difficult to relate to Bosnia, Iraq or Somalia.

I'm sure everyone can relate to this.

Conspiracy Nutball

Just a thought on the new swine flu that has the media in the throws of orgasmic delight.

With everything that is coming down the pike, see previous post, and Mexico being at the forefront of the possible collapse of a national government, doesn't this outbreak seem just a wee bit convenient?

The gangs themselves have to retreat from their activities lest they become ill. People are forced back into their homes, and have to once again rely on a faltering government to keep them "safe". Not to mention, it just may thin the herd.....making unrest less likely.

The timing just doesn't sit with me. It is the end of the flu season, and bammo, a new strain arises....in Mexico of all places.

Your Time Has Run Out

The world has already passed the point of no return. There's no way to turn around this behemoth that our "civilization" has become. We're a ship without a rudder, without a captain, and with a crew near mutiny. And we're heading for the coastline at flank speed.

People are at the rails fighting over the lifeboats which will, in all probability, be swamped in the wake of this massive ship as it careens onward to its doom.

Then there's the others still playing in the casino, drinking at the bar, and stuffing themselves at the buffet thinking someone else will fix the problems. Some just think the ship is "too big to fail".

The rest of us have been stealing the jet skis, or just jumping overboard and swimming for the nearest land.

If you need a thumbnail sketch of what is going on, and what will be happening, just to try ONE last time to get your friends or family to jump overboard with you, head on over to The Silver Bear Cafe and read this.

Economic Collapse to Trigger Social Pandemonium
Lee Bellinger

(Editor's Note: This urgent, time-sensitive briefing from Lee Bellinger, Publisher of Independent Living, reveals some deeply disturbing developments right under the surface. While, to some, the following might seem like sensationalist hogwash, to your editor, it is like "singing to the choir". It would be foolish not to consider these possibilities. - JSB)

U.S. Preparing a Military Response to Coming Social Chaos

As the shocking confidential information contained in this briefing shows, the threat of social meltdown and chaos is so large a domestic law-enforcement arm of the U.S. military (referred to by The Army Times as the "Consequence Management Response Force") has been created to deal with what U.S. officials believe to be a coming, unprecedented wave of massive social chaos.

Later I'll show you why many Washington insiders (including officials directly involved in homeland security) are personally making emergency preparations for social chaos. In addition, outgoing Treasury Secretary Hank Paulson told Sen. James Inhofe and Rep. Brad Sherman that so much financial mayhem lies ahead U.S. troops may have to impose martial law to deal with social unrest.

Yes, U.S. Officials Are Quietly Preparing for BIG Trouble Ahead

A new report by the Army War College's Strategic Studies Institute states flatly the U.S. military must prepare for "a violent, strategic dislocation inside the United States" that could be provoked by "unforeseen economic collapse" or "loss of functioning political and legal order."

Late last year, The Washington Post noted the incoming Obama Administration is going to "earmark" at least 20,000 troops returning from Iraq to deal with "domestic emergencies." Since then, the Army Times has broken the story that the domestic emergency army unit has been increased to 80,000 troops, who are being trained right now in Georgia.

In short, U.S. officials expect big trouble ahead - but they are not warning the general public about the danger (much less urge the unsuspecting masses to make basic preparations).

A rare critic of the government's keep-the-public-in-the-dark mentality is former head of the U.S. Commission on National Security, Stephen Flynn. He noted in a recent Wall Street Journal editorial: "Too many officials believe telling the truth to Americans about the risk would set off a nationwide panic. Thus, they keep us sheep in the dark for our own good."

Boiled down, you need a real plan to deal with massive social dislocations that are headed our way. And you need to get started right now, because the government isn't going to give you a heads-up.

Here's Why Washington Expects to Use Troops Against Americans

Let me get straight to the point about the high probability of social chaos, what it will look like, and what you can do to not be among the millions of unsuspecting Americans who are going to get caught flat-footed.

You see, a government-consumer debt bubble 20+ years in the making is imploding - as desperate federal meddling to stave off financial collapse is "funded" by frantic funny-money printing to shower trillions of dollars over a restive public.

Even "mainstream" financial figures are finally admitting we may be in more than a recession. For example, the CEO of General Electric, Jeff Immelt, recently conceded the U.S. may be descending into a depression.

Until a few short months ago, official Washington wasn't even using the "R" word. The "experts" are finally fessing up to what the rest of us can already see: Ghost malls springing up from coast to coast, with an estimated 148,000 store closures projected so far for 2009 - including Steve and Barrys, Sharper Image, Wicks, Levitz, CompUSA, Circuit City, Linens and Things, KB Toys, Whitehall Jewellers, and Shoe Pavilion.

Frightened U.S. policy-makers also note a number of giant chains are on the brink of bankruptcy for 2009, including Phillip Van Heusen (IZOD/Calvin Klein), Macys, Office Depot, Pacific Sunware, Bombay Company, Pep Boys, Sprint-Nextel service stores, Ethan Allen, Ann Taylor, Lane Bryant, Dillards, Starbucks, the Gap, Footlocker, and Home Depot.

Dire Unemployment Picture Foreshadows Social Chaos

John Williams of the authoritative Shadow Government Statistics notes that unfudged, un-manipulated government statistics suggests a whopping civilian unemployment rate of 17% - with a projected total to exceed 30% (during the Great Depression, unemployment approached an historic 25%).

In the U.S., job-shedding has now exceeded post-World War II levels and the January 28 Wall Street Journal warned: "One troubling sign is that the states that were first into recession - those with a heavy concentration of home building and manufacturing - are getting worse, not better..."

In December, the International Monetary Fund's managing director Dominique Strauss-Kahn warned of riots and unrest sweeping through Western countries as lower-income households are beset with credit constraints and rampant unemployment. (Such riots have already caused the government of Iceland to fall and triggered riots in Greece.)

Today's Americans Don't Resemble the Hardy Depression-Era Generation

Not to be politically-incorrect, but the simple truth is millions of Americans who've never known anything but prosperity and easy-money have a militant expectation that society "owes" them something. And with so many families on the margins of survival already, the speed of the downward unemployment spiral is downright ominous (and unprecedented).

Worse, there are few signs the taxpayer dependents of today have any of the self-reliance skills that saw the hardy Great Depression generation through the tough times.

In fact, there is mounting evidence tens of millions of low-income government dependents and many others infected with a sense of entitlement are prone to crime and violence - especially when it dawns on the masses there are not enough jobs and government promises of "relief" are as empty as the U.S. Treasury is bankrupt.

For example, in response to financially-troubled New York State making minor trims to its budget, an ugly 50,000+ mob took to the streets around city hall to demand higher taxes against the "rich." (Similar protests were mounted in Albany, Buffalo, and White Plains.)

In just the last year, when fuel prices were soaring and metals such as platinum were exploding, gasoline thefts across the nation became rampant. Copper was being ripped off from construction sites, pipes were torn out of abandoned houses and catalytic converters containing trace elements of platinum were being shanghaied from parked cars all over the country.

Of course, the possibility of a full-scale depressionary unemployment is just one "trigger" threatening to cause society to come completely unglued.

Systemic Collapse is a Real Possibility: Other Shoes Are Getting Ready to Drop

It is far too dangerous to ignore the growing signs of impending national social chaos. Even after absorbing some of the unsettling facts in this briefing, you need to act calmly and decisively make sure you can get the things you need and protect what's yours - with undertones of frantic - while you still can. The signs of trouble abound.

Congressional Quarterly notes that pension fund losses are about to spill out onto the front pages - with nearly as much financial exposure as that which brought down America's banking giants.

It has not made much news yet, but the pension funds of millions of retirees is down by a whopping $1.9 trillion. This is why cities such as Philadelphia are quietly seeking federal money to bolster pension funds which CQ notes are 60% invested in the stock market - which itself has collapsed by a catastrophic 50% in just the last 18 months.

Not to scare the pants off you, but the Government Accountability Office (GAO) has quietly informed Congress that the "insurance" agency for private pension funds, the Pension Benefit Guaranty Corporation, is at high risk of failure. (This will not become a "crisis" until desperate people start trying to tap early retirement money that is not there - for now the looming pension catastrophe remains a "dormant"
threat).

Worse, the former head of the U.S. Comptroller General Office, David Walker, essentially told Congress (before resigning in disgust) that the Social Security "Trust Fund" is a vault of IOUs; and Medicare will soon be effectively bankrupt.

State Governments Are Becoming Too Broke for Law-Enforcement

The American Association of Architects' historically-reliable construction index has plunged 34.7% - a grim indication the commercial real estate market is the next shoe to drop, which analyst Mike Larson forecasts will lead to an "unstoppable chain reaction of bankruptcies."

The reason I bring this up is because 46 states are already experiencing major budget shortfalls. And yet it is taxes from U.S.
commercial real estate on which local and state governments depend to fund fire, police and social services. (Not to mention major insurance carriers - many of which are going to go belly-up when the full extent of the commercial real estate bust hits their reserve portfolios.)

States such as California and Kansas don't even have enough money to send out tax refund checks (much less properly fund police departments) and are coping with the biggest annual job loss in a single year since
1945 (down 2.8 million jobs in 2008 alone).

The Washington Post notes two out of three large police departments in U.S. cities are already reporting budget cuts and hiring freezes, even as 233 departments told the Police Executive Research Forum that they are noticing a major "uptick" in property crime which they attribute to financial unrest.

The National Center for the Victims of Crime reports a whopping 24% increase in calls from October 2007 to October 2008 as "job losses and economic stress factor into increased violence."

In addition, cash-strapped states have been forced by collapsing tax revenue to release hardened criminals back into society, noted the Post. On February 21, The Charlotte Observer reported on a disturbing trend which is going on all over the country: Major budget cuts for jails even as criminality is on the rise.

The Observer story cited the closing of a youth detention center for violent offenders, an all-too-common "low-profile" budget-cutting practice going on all over the country.

More Evidence the You-Know-What is Going to Hit the Fan

Think about the widespread collapse of order and emergency services in New Orleans after Hurricane Katrina - except on a national level. The implementation of gun-confiscation laws, looters and thugs terrorizing the elderly with impunity, besieged hospitals without power, doctors and medicine. People forcibly herded into "containment zones" and denied access to food, water, and medical attention. At least 45 patients died in one city-run hospital after being abandoned by doctors and staff.

More recently, a simple fuel pipeline break in America's barely-functioning, antiquated energy infrastructure spawned major gasoline delivery disruptions throughout the entire Southeastern Seaboard region. For over six weeks, drivers could not find gasoline except by standing in line for hours to get just a few gallons of fuel.

The recent regional collapse of the U.S. fuel infrastructure is a major warning sign that the energy supply chain is stretched dangerously thin - which combined with financial unrest has the strong potential to create major disruptions in the food supply chain (most population centers have only three days of food available to the public through supermarkets - meaning panic runs on food are a distinct possibility as the potential for social chaos continues to mount).

If you think these scenarios cannot happen in the United States of America, talk with anyone who has ever been in the path of a hurricane. They will confirm that by the time the general public catches on to the danger, getting everyday items such as gasoline, batteries, plywood, medicine, water, and food becomes next to impossible. Social services, police protection, public transportation, and highway systems become next to useless.

When the Police Abandon Law-Abiding Neighborhoods to Mobs

And don't even get me started on police protection. Past riots in Washington DC and Los Angeles portend a disturbing pattern when social chaos overwhelms order. The police almost always "pull back" and abandon entire neighborhoods to vicious mobs.

In the case of the 1992 Los Angeles Rodney King riots (as Caucasians and Asians were hunted down, robbed, and slaughtered), the police hunkered behind their defensive cordons as the murderous racist rage unfolded - the only outside contact law-abiding victims had in the riot zone were with intrepid news helicopters hovering overhead, broadcasting the racial programs on live TV.

You may even remember the only community to come out unscathed were sections of Los Angeles populated by Asian merchants - who fended off the mobs by placing shooters on the roofs of buildings within their defense perimeter. These heroic Korean merchants successfully protected their families, shops and homes. All because they knew how worthless bureaucrats truly are and made their own preparations. Where are you in this process?

The coming social chaos will magnify these problems a thousand-fold. In short, it is extremely important to be one step ahead of the general public during an unfolding crisis. And at least three long steps ahead of the government's draconian, blunderbuss, freedom-stealing response.

Government Deliberately Keeps Public in the Dark About Multiple Threats to Public Order

Some Americans have learned from past history and are quietly making basic emergency preparations for social chaos. Private gun sales at all-time record highs. Safe makers and alarm and generator installers have never been so busy. Not even close.

Highly successful financial players such as commodities genius Jim Rogers now openly says the U.S. is heading for an inflationary holocaust.

Which is why, for over a year - as confidence in the U.S. financial and political system continues to evaporate - physical gold and silver have been flying off the shelves - not just in the United States but all over the globe. The unavailability of physical gold and silver has become so acute that major U.S. mints have either curtailed or stopped taking orders for new coins.

The Washington Elite Are Quietly Making Themselves More Self-Reliant

Now I want to share an important personal insight with you that will probably never make the news. You see, I belong to two Washington, D.C. membership organizations which date back to the 1800s - with members that include a smattering of cabinet officials, members of Congress, mid-level federal managers and many, many, retired former insiders.

This is how I first learned that many top-level Washington insiders - many of whom have been directly involved in developing the Homeland Security Department, do not have confidence in government preparations for social chaos.

I know this for a fact, not just because of my conversations with club members. I am also an acquaintance with a private contractor who has a booming specialty business which does nothing but work in posh DC neighborhoods, installing emergency back-up generators, freezers for food, and safes (Even a quick review of the DC yellow pages suggests that installing emergency generators and other survival precautions has become a prospering cottage industry in the Washington area.)

As one of my very best Hillsdale College professors would have mused: "What would lead so many influential Washington insiders (who are in a position to know) to seek out ways to become so much more self-reliant than the average citizen?"

Outgoing Vice President Dick Cheney's Chilling Prediction

Of course, financial mayhem may be the least of America's problems. Right after leaving office, Vice President Dick Cheney warned of the possible deaths of "perhaps hundreds of thousands of Americans" in a terror attack using nuclear or biological weapons. "I think there is a high probability of such an attempt," the straight-talking Cheney warned during an interview with Politico.

An important item buried deeply in The Washington Post recently noted there are already 20,000 commercially-available labs in the world where a single person could synthesize any existing virus. In those same 20,000 labs, five people with $2 million can create an advanced pathogen-meaning a virus that will be able to infect even those people who have been immunized with conventional vaccines, and kill perhaps a million of them.

Former Health and Human Services Secretary Tommy Thompson confessed to a reporter he "worries every single night" about a possible bioterror attack on the U.S. food supply. "For the life of me," he said, "I cannot understand why the terrorists have not attacked our food supply because it is the easiest thing to do".

Two Categories of People: The Prepared vs. the Clueless

Whatever form the "triggering event" takes, not only will millions of Americans suddenly discover they are completely on their own, they will be completely unprepared for the government's draconian response to social chaos.

So there are two categories of people in America right now: Category 1 are the millions of clueless who blissfully assume their political overlords are going to take care of them. These are the people most likely to get caught flat-footed when all hell breaks loose. Category 2 are prudent, savvy people who are taking basic steps toward making their families and their households more self-reliant.

The Rise Of Pandemic?

Yesterday, reports began to appear in the mainstream news concerning outbreaks of "Swine Flu". Although reports had begun to appear on the CDC website as early as April 22.

Interestingly, this new flu virus contains genes from swine, avian, and human flu variants. The genes also appear to contain elements that mark them as being from Asian, European, and North American sources. The flu also appears to transmit itself from human to human hosts without the need for animal intermediaries.

This seems to be proven by the appearance of the illness in two school kids in Southern California, neither of whom seem to have had any contact with pigs. There have been eight cases to date in California, and two in Texas. New York is reporting a possible 75 additional cases ( 9 have tested positive so far for this variant ), all of them children attending the same school. The school has now been closed as a precaution.

The flu seems to have had its initial outbreak in Mexico, where it has sickened an estimated 1000 people. The numbers may actually be higher, as not everyone will seek treatment for the flu. The illness has also had 60 deaths attributed to it.

Mexico has sought assistance from Canada in identifying a component of the illness. An estimated 130 people have also developed a severe respiratory condition in conjunction with the flu. The cause has not yet been determined.

Mexico has begun shutting down some schools and other venues in order to limit the spread of the contagion.

The CDC and US government have not attempted to limit cross border travel in order to limit the spread of the disease. In fact, the CDC says that it is "too late" to try and mitigate the spread of the illness.

Tin Foil Hat Time:

Back in February, Baxter International shipped ACTIVE Avian H5N1 (Asian) virus samples that had been mixed with seasonal H3N2 (North American) flu virus to labs in Europe to produce (European) flu vaccines for the European Market. The virus samples were supposed to have been deactivated prior to shipping. Some of the active samples were used to produce a vaccine which was distributed.

Those vaccines were then used on an estimated 36 or 37 people.

The contamination was allegedly discovered by chance by a Czech lab tech who was testing the vaccines on some lab animals. Normally, the vaccines would not affect the lab animals, but when some started dying, an investigation was launched which revealed the active H5N1 virus.

Baxter was allegedly about to receive a Europe wide license to market and distribute an Avian Flu Vaccine. What better way to make your money back on an investment than to artificially create a market.

Viruses are interesting critters. They freely swap genetic coding between each other. This is often how viruses, in effect, "learn" how to infect and use humans as hosts. So, by placing a virus which readily makes humans home with a virus that is trying to learn how to do it, the chances of a genetic exchange increase, as does the possibility of creating a new contagion.

On top of this we have a number of lunatics running around saying that we have to reduce the human population to a more manageable level. The most notable is Eric Pianka, Texas A&M University, who garnered both praise and condemnation in 2006 for advocating that the human population be reduced by 90%.

Then there is the strange deaths of a number of the world's leading microbiologists. Back in 2002, microbiologists began dying at a rate that seems to defy the laws of chance (as many as eleven in five months), and they began dying in some rather unusual manners. Take for instance the five Israeli microbiologists who were on a commercial jetliner in route to Siberia. The plane was shot down by a Ukrainian surface to air missile while over the Black Sea. The incident was ruled an "accident".

Somehow getting blown out of the air by a surface to air missile doesn't seem like an accident to me.

To date, an estimated 14 of the world's leading microbiologists have died in what can only be described as unusual circumstances. An additional 60 microbiologists who were allegedly working on government projects have also met untimely demises.

Booby Traps.

The Philosopher Plato postulated in The Republic that "Necessity Is The Mother Of Invention". I postulate that necessity can be a mother.....

I'm sure many of us have, as children, done things like stretch a jump rope across the school hallway in an effort to ensnare a victim. In college, it was a favorite prank to charge up a large capacitor and wire it to a chair.

Relatively harmless fun.

But these types of pranks can evolve into much more nefarious and deadly traps.

During World War II, it was common for people to string piano wire across the narrow streets in European towns in an effort to decapitate those riding in open vehicles. Some people in Europe just can't seem to get away from this practice.

The North Vietnamese Army and, especially, the Viet Cong took devising and placing booby traps very seriously.

Here in this short segment of a BBC video production, you can see some of the novel and inventive methods they employed, using common materials, in an effort to maim and capture enemy soldiers.

The activities were of such concern that the US Army wrote a classified document (now declassified) detailing the activities and methods of construction used by the Viet Cong.

Just so you know, Americans also prepared booby traps in response. My dad took great delight in detailing how he would prepare Zippo Lighters to explode. Zippos were prized by the Vietnamese fighters.

This manual is now available for download in the "File Of The Day" section at the right. I hope it stimulates the thought processes of the more inventive and creative evil geniuses out there who may one day find themselves facing a larger, better equipped force.

Glimmers Of "Hope"

I think the "glimmers" that Obama is seeing are actually the stars people see after they get hit upside the head with a rock.

Note to Obama: That rock was supposed to be a reality check, not an excuse to run off into Michael Jackson's "Neverland".

Here's what Obama is ignoring when he talks about "glimmers":

Mortgage defaults up 42% nationally over the same period last year.

Defaults in California up 80% over the previous three months.

General Motors receives billions in aid, but will idle plants for nine weeks.

In spite of recent "rallies" in the stock market, it continues its downward trend.

Student loan defaults rise with the continued decline in available jobs.

401K savings accounts disappear while administration mulls seizure of accounts.

The TARP give-away has resulted in TWENTY probes into probable fraud.

The American people were defrauded by AIG which funneled the money into foreign banks.

The second largest US owner of malls files for bankruptcy protection amid continued contraction of the economy.

Commercial property soon to be next foreclosure mess. Proof it has already started. Don't believe me? Look at this and this.

Police agencies expect violence as a result of economic downturn to increase.

Shotgun wedding of Fiat and Chrysler may not happen as Fiat posts losses. Fiat plays games, aims to break UAW and stick US taxpayer with the bill for Chrysler.

ALCOA, Yahoo, Cessna Aircraft, cities, counties, and states continue furloughs, and layoffs.

Well, when you want for nothing because you can always loot the peasants while calling them extremists for opposing the abuse, I guess there will always be glimmers of hope.

Because we will keep throwing rocks. Some of you hangers on in his entourage might want to give him a helmet before you lose your meal ticket.

Rule Number One:

Rule Number One: There are no rules.

This post was inspired by Radio's response to Everyday Prepper and "183 Times" from I Drive My Tractor In Pearls.

There was a time when men of great intellect sought to establish a nation built upon the rule of law. Almost since this great nation's inception, some people began to realize that they didn't have to follow the rules. The rules were for other people.

There was a time in the world when warfare was codified and rules were laid down that all participants were expected to abide by. The Geneva Conventions are generally cited, but the rules by which warfare would be conducted stretch further back in time. Deuteronomy 20:19, in the Old Testament, sets the limits for collateral and environmental damage: "When thou hast besieged a city a long time, and hath compassed it with bulwarks to take it, thou shalt not cut down the trees that may be eaten of, neither shalt thou spoil the country round about with axes: for it is a tree, and not a man, neither can it increase the number of them that fight against thee."

Not many armies through the ages paid heed to those words. There were times that the rate of disease and death in the camps were just as bad or worse than in the besieged city. What is a rule if you do not follow it?

In the American War for Independence, the British forces bitterly complained about the colonists' proclivities for engaging in guerilla style warfare. The British expected opposing forces to march out into open field and fire upon each other until one line broke. The colonists took to hiding behind stone walls, tree lines, and inside barns. There they could fire upon marching lines of British soldiers with near impunity. After a quick strike, the colonists would simply melt into the wilderness, which they knew better than the British.

The British also complained about the colonist's tactics of decapitating a military force by targeting the officers. In 1778, the British began impressment of regular army troops, and the colonists learned that by eliminating the officers, the regular troops would withdraw from the engagement.

Two additional complaints were the refusal to bear a standard into battle, and to wear a uniform.

In European style warfare, fixed lines, and the safety of officers were the rules. Military forces were expected to bear a standard, and wear a recognizable uniform to identify soldiers.

The colonists did not abide by those rules. Those were the rules for the Redcoats. So, in effect, there were no rules.

Today, our troops are scattered around the world, and frequently they are facing opponents who engage in similar tactics. In other words, they don't obey the rules.

Our rules dictate blue water navies, artillery engagements, armor columns slugging it out alongside infantry clashes while fighters duel above and long range bombers drop thousand pound death notices on the cities below. Conversely, the opponents hide within a larger civilian population, they use improvised munitions which are frequently detonated from a safe distance away, they snipe and move, they refuse to wear a uniform. After a quick strike, they melt away into a wilderness of sand and concrete which they know better than any American soldier.

Our government's response has been to declare them "enemy combatants", not soldiers, and therefore not subject to the Geneva Conventions. These people have been often subjected to torture, and have been held without trial. Even the British treated captured colonials as Prisoners Of War. If the British had declared them traitors, they would have been hanged. These very actions go against everything this country once stood for. In other words, the rules are on paper, but aren't being followed. In short, there are no rules.

These tactics that are being employed against "enemy combatants" have started to migrate into larger society. "No Knock Raids", "Warrantless Searches", "Checkpoints", "Ad-hoc Gun Seizures" and other obtrusive and heavy handed tactics are just the beginning. The police have begun to realize that rules are for other people.

The public is supposed to be protected by the rules contained within the Founding Documents. Public servants take an oath to defend the rules contained within the documents, and most do not. Those rules are for other people. There are no rules.

Eventually, the public is going to wake up. They will realize what lone gunmen, mobs, and rioters have realized for a very long time. The rules only work when everyone agrees to play by them.

Once the public at large figures out that there are no rules, those who were charged with defending the rules will find out what it means when there are no rules.

Gotta work tonight.

Sorry folks, been having to do paperwork this afternoon, and I have to work tonight. Yeah, I started my first job at 0500 this morning, so it has been a full day.

I'll try and get something up late when I get home.

If you're a "Prepper", and have been somewhat up front about it, go check out Ernie's post. Seems we may be attracting some attention.

Military Arms: Forgotten Closet Queens

Shadow, a friend of mine, is fond of saying that when everything goes into the crapper, just keep your head down and don't draw attention to yourself. He tells this to people who don't have a lot of money for modern arms and ammunition, can't afford the latest body armor, but damn well want their country back and are anxious that they will be outgunned.

He tells them to get whatever weapon they can afford, be familiar with it, and be ready to use it if someone or someones decide to invade the sanctuary of their home. He's not real big on the argument on the "best" home defense weapon. He believes the best home defense weapon is whatever you have along with the will, and mindset to use it.

Even if that weapon is a pot of scalding water or a bucket of gasoline and a roadflare.

Shadow believes that after the initial clash, it will be "free shopping day" where you'll be able to walk the areas of conflict and pick up whatever you want.

Slightly used, of course.

Now quite a few people out there have never really had an interest in guns and weaponry. I can understand that, and I don't fault them at all.

If you fit in this catagory, I'm sure the stories of scarce ammunition, and rapid gun sales, and rapidly escalating prices, have probably given you some pause. Perhaps you're beginning to think that you're too late to the party.

Some of you folks have probably inherited things from grandfathers and fathers. War trophies, and things gathered through the years. They're probably hidden away in the attics and basements, away from curious little fingers and even more creative little minds.

If you're one of these folks, you really should dig that heirloom out and really go through it. As much as I hate Walmart, gun cleaning kits and needed materials are available there at a reasonable price. Make sure you pick up a set of gunsmithing screwdrivers. Walmart has a set for about eight bucks. The screws in a firearm are different from the screws you're probably more familiar with and using your more familiar tools may damage the ones in your firearm. Also pick up something like "BreakFree" or "WD-40" because there's a chance that things will be frozen in place after years of neglect.

It is important to be patient if you are dealing with something that is frozen in place. Follow the instructions on the product you are using, and just allow time for it to work.

Don't get all crazy when you disassemble the weapon. Field stripping is usually sufficient for most cleaning jobs. If you start pulling every little spring and screw out, unless you are intimately familiar with the weapon, you'll probably never get it back together again.

If in doubt, take a digital picture of things before you take it apart. I use this trick when I'm working on unfamiliar equipment, and it has helped me get the correct wires back into the correct connectors innumerable times.

At this point I will advise you against taking it to a gun shop or gun smith for evaluation. I'm not saying everyone out there is a snake, but it is better to err on the side of caution. What you have may in fact be extremely valuable, or extremely illegal depending on where you live. It will be best for you to figure out what you have before you have someone look at it to see if it is safe to fire.

Over there on the right in the "File Of The Day" section is a gem of a book I found squirreled away on an FTP site. I've moved it over to a more easily accessible download site.

This gem was published in 1943, by the Military Service Publishing Company. So, as one can guess, this book covers arms manufactured only up to this point. It covers everything from handguns to heavy machineguns, and has photographs of the assembly and disassembly of the weapon.

If you don't see your weapon pictured in this book, look for anything that could give you a clue to a country of manufacture, and a date stamp. You may have to make a trip to a library to do more research on your particular piece. I don't know of an online gun museum, but if someone does have a link to one that has photos, please let us all know.

Once you've figured out what you have, you can determine its approximate value, and whether or not ammunition for it is still available. If at this point, you decide you want to use it as your home defense weapon, please have a qualified gunsmith inspect before you fire it.

2nd Post Today: Chuck Norris To Run For President of Texas

Chuck Norris for President of Texas

He says, "I may run for president of Texas. That need may be a reality sooner than we think."

Friday, April 17, 2009

Martial-arts master Chuck Norris has his sights set on becoming more than a Texas Ranger - he has volunteered to run as the state's first president.

Norris, who played TV hardman Cordell Walker in hit series Walker, Texas Ranger, has put himself up for the job of running the region after discussing the possibility of the state seceding from U.S. control during a rant on CNN.com's political blog.

The actor, who is a staunch Republican, insists Texans want an independent state after being let down by the American government - and thinks he'd be the ideal candidate to lead the Lone Star state's revolution.

He says, "I may run for president of Texas. That need may be a reality sooner than we think. If not me, someone someday may again be running for president of the Lone Star state, if the state of the union continues to turn into the enemy of the state.

"Anyone who has been around Texas for any length of time knows exactly what we'd do if the going got rough in America."

Here's a link to Chuck's column on WorldNet Daily.

Here's a link to Chuck's interview with Glenn Beck.

Damn, just our luck! We got stuck with a son-of-a-Nazi here in California! Go, Chuck, Go! Anyone in Texas willing to sponsor a refugee from California if you guys secede? I've got my own guns and stuff....

Do It Yourself Chemical Warfare

I wonder if Nancy Pelosi, Barbara Boxer, or Dianne Feinstein read these blogs. I can just imagine them in their offices reading them and running in circles as though they had one foot nailed to the floor.

I do ( I'm sure some of my fellow bloggers as well) get visitors from Washington D.C., Virginia, and Maryland. I hope its just the fun and freedom loving citizens of our land coming to see what the crazy, cat loving, cigar chomping, whisky drinking, long hair from California has smeared across the World Wide Web this time.

I know this post is going to make those ladies ( I use the term loosely) feel like someone just shoved an ice cold speculum up the wrong hole.

You don't need to have a huge lab or millions of dollars to make use of the wonders of modern chemistry. In fact, the government has partnered with some of the largest chemical companies in the world and delivered the magic right to your door.

Right now, many of you have lethal neurotoxins in your home. Just waiting for you to use them. Can't you hear their little voices screaming, "Warriors.....come out to plAAAaaaayyy!" Oh yes, they're just as psychotic and evil as that bottle clacking idiot in the hearse.

Can you imagine that these huge companies that we're bailing out are part of a system that sells you, and allows you to keep in your home, the agents created to lay waste to untold numbers of people? Parathion, for example, was created by IG Farben, part of Adolph Hitler's war machine.

And they're worried about you having a few guns in your home? With a little work, and a weekend, you could build a weapon to take out half your town in a few hours. How long would it take you to do that with a pistol, or even a fully automatic rifle?

One of the best compounds for ready use is parathion. Fortunately, or unfortunately depending on where you stand, parathion is now a restricted use pesticide. If you happen to live in the Midwest, or the South, it shouldn't be too hard to find as it is still widely used in agriculture. What it does is inhibit Acetylcholinesterase. Which means basically your muscles stop working, in other words you can't breathe, which results in asphyxiation, and ultimately death. Yes, that does mean you make a mess in your drawers and there's nothing you can do about it.

Two compounds frequently found in the home are Diazinon and Malathion. Used frequently in gardening, Diazinon is also a potent Acetylcholinesterase inhibitor. Diazinon is also now a restricted use pesticide, but because it was used and sold so widely, it shows up frequently at yard sales. Malathion is less potent than Diazinon, but is still capable of causing distress.

Oh, I know, I know...they're dilute, and "safe" for use. But there are ways of increasing their concentration. I'm not going to explain how to do that. It is FAR too dangerous unless you have the proper equipment. This stuff is worse than meth when it comes to contaminating an environment, which means that it can continue making people ill or even killing for a very long time. If you have the chemistry background, or are savvy enough to navigate the web, I'm sure you can find the instructions yourself.

Don't forget the magic of Nature herself. She frequently creates some really lethal poisons of her own. The most well known is the Castor Bean, Ricinus Communis! This is where the deadly poison Ricin comes from.

Many people are injured and even killed every year by the accidental or intentional mixing of ammonia, and household bleach. What happens is mono and di chloromines, as well as chloromine are formed. All of these compounds are irritants to mucous membranes. Nitrogen Trichloride is also formed (yes, this is what they bleach white flour with. Are you still going to buy it?). It happens to be an explosive gas. In fact, it is such an unstable explosive gas that exposing it to sunlight will set it off.

On top of all these fun things, Chlorine Gas is formed.

Did you ever stop to think this is why it isn't a good idea to pee in the pool? All that chlorine, and the ammonia in your urine.....wow.

Chlorine Gas was one of the first gasses used by those always fun and innovative Germans during World War I. The first use of it managed to create a four mile wide break in the trench lines.

Chlorine gas will dissolve your lungs. Basically, you will drown in your own fluids.

Sorry kids, no "how-to" papers for this post. Chemical and biological warfare scare the crap out of me. The people deploying them as a weapon can't control them. The targeted enemy can't control them. So, you can understand why I say they're just as psychotic and evil as that bottle clacking idiot in the hearse.

As always, this was just for educational and entertainment purposes only. If you try this at home, and are stupid enough to get yourself poisoned, while you're laying there in your feces and urine trying to breathe, remember that I told you not to do it.

A Pistol For Everyone

If you've been a guest of the state or the federal government, and have been discharged with a big fat "F" on your permanent record, chances are you won't be able to walk into a gun show or gun store and walk out with any kind of pistol. Unless you're real good at the five finger discount. I do not recommend that anyone ever be so stupid as to try and steal a gun at a gun show. You are taking your life in your hands.

On to happier thoughts.

Did you know you, Mr. "I Have An F On My Permanent Record", can still buy, and carry a pistol (in many jurisdictions) quite legally? Did you know that there's no paperwork involved? No FFL? No waiting period.....hmmmmm?

There are a few visitors from foreign lands that pass through here. In many instances, firearms ownership is restricted or prohibited in their lands. You folks may want to check into this for your area.

All you have to do is go down to the local marina or go to a boat shop. Sometimes even a K-Mart or Walmart if it's near a major body of water. I've even seen these pistols being sold in gas stations and bait shops.

Okay, now you're totally confused. Boat. Marina. Pistol. Felon owning and carrying a gun legally.

Actually any of us can carry it. Even concealed. You can carry it in any of the so-called "gun free zones". Know why? Because this pistol isn't classified as a "firearm".

Ah-ha! Some of you have caught on!

That's right, its called a "Very Pistol" or more commonly, a flare gun. The ones today are an awful safety orange color, and are made of plastic. BUT you too can own a real German made steel flare pistol. The catch is that it is 26.5 MM, awwwwww.....but wait...you can get an adapter to allow you to fire 12 gauge shells. YAAAAAAAyyyyyyy!

Now, if you do fire 12 gauge shotgun shells from it, it'll be awful hard on your wrists. 12 gauge flares will be much easier to deal with.

Flares as an offensive weapon? You betcha...fire one of those into a vehicle loaded with thugs and sit back and watch the fun. Can you imagine taking a round of burning magnesium, phosphorous, and assorted chemicals to the gut? It'll be like looking at one of those old "Roadrunner" cartoons where there's a hole completely through ol' Wiley Coyote.

Talk about "heart burn"!

It could come in handy too if you need to set a building on fire, or if you're fleeing a larger group of armed thugs bent on doing terrible things to your person, it just may be advantageous to set a wild fire to deter them. Just make sure the wind is blowing in the right direction (towards them).

Feel free to allow your imagination to wander on all the glorious possibilities.

Thanks Shadow, for helping me think outside the box.

Educational Videos: Grenades

Before we get to the subject at hand, if you are downloading the files in the "File Of The Day" section, please use the Firefox browser with the plugins "No Script" and "AdBlock Plus" installed. The free file hosting services linked to often generate their operating revenue by selling advertising. Some of the advertising can be extremely aggressive and can result in annoying pop-ups or pop-unders, and attempts at redirecting you to unfriendly sites. Firefox with these two plugins installed will thwart most of these attempts. Internet Explorer...well, let's just say that it can leave you open to the prospect of something as unpleasant as a drive-by colonoscopy.

This video gives you a guided tour of the inside of a grenade. Pay particular attention to the fuse element.

This guy (in the three videos below) is building a Russian RGD-5 fragmentation grenade out of paper mache. It is functional but has limited effectiveness due to the fact that it is made of paper. Detailed diagrams of the fuse assembly are available here.

The important item to pay attention to is the fuse assembly which is constructed out of a G2 pen. The G2 pen is made by Pilot, and any similar pen can be used. One can also pick up springs in the specialty hardware section of many hardware and home improvement stores. Instead of the paper rings this guy is using, one can also use aluminum or copper tubing. A nail with the sharp point rounded down can be used for the striker. A commercial primer, for say a shotgun round, can be substituted for the cap from a capgun.

One doesn't actually have to use a de-militarized or training grenade for the body. Any sturdy metal container that is easily handled and thrown will work as a grenade. Even schedule 80 PVC pipe can be employed.

For thin wall containers, shrapnel (my friend, Shadow, is especially fond of broken drill bits and drywall screws) should be mixed in with the explosive.

See the "File Of The Day" section for more info.

Again, there is something that must be said here. I am not advocating that anyone engage in actually following the instructions contained in this document. New Feature: File Of The Day

First, a thanks to Radio for his words of wisdom in response to my post from yesterday. I appreciate his sage words.

I need to get back on track and stop being distracted by the insanity that fills everything from newspapers to television news. I can't stop what is going on, and all of us are sure to see the loss of our treasured American way of life. Radio is correct, this is going to be painful. The best all of us can do is to nurture the memories of the America we knew and use them as seed for the future. We'll plant when the ground is fertile again, and we will see what we all love spring into bloom once again.

Hopefully this time, the future generations will not allow the weeds to overtake our garden of Liberty.

So, getting back on track, I'm starting a new feature I'm calling "File Of The Day". I've been busy collecting everything I can on improvised weaponry. I've collected military manuals, and texts on guerilla warfare and a heck of a lot more.

On the right side of the page, at the top, you will see this new feature, along with the download link.

Most of this stuff is hosted on anonymous servers all around the world. I will be putting up a link each day to a file. If it is something that interests you, download it and build up your library.

Today's selection is called, "LAW and Disorder: Rearming the 66mm Light Anti-tank Weapon". The expended tubes from LAWs rockets can be found everywhere from gun shows to military surplus stores. It is a versatile and extremely useful piece of ordnance.

There is something that must be said here. I am not advocating that anyone engage in actually following the instructions contained in this document. The link and the material are provided for educational and entertainment purposes only. You are responsible for obeying all applicable laws for your area of residence.
