8.9 Quake 30 Foot Wall Of Water

I watched live video feeds tonight from NHK TV in Japan just after the quake. Watching people running across open farmland or trying to out run the tsunami in cars and trucks only to be overtaken by the relentless wall of water.....

Kasuga Taisha The shrine of my ancestors, dedicated to the Shinto god Ame-no-Koyane, rumored to be a relative.

Even though I am an American and always will be, there is something that will forever be Japanese within me and what I watched tonight ....

No contact with relatives still living in Japan as of yet.

I also hope you hear from them soon, safe and sound.

I understand Hawaii and the U.S. West Coast is also on alert for possible tsunami as well. Keep alert if you live in these areas.

Thanks everyone. Spoke with mom this morning and everyone in Japan is safe.

Good to hear everyone's okay. What a mess over there. On top of New Zealand, and all the other quake damaged spots. Hold on tight over there in occupied Kalifornia, the way things are going y'all might be next...

Glad to hear your loved ones are safe. I've been watching the coverage (I was up when it hit, and saw the coverage that night) and the whole thing is just ghastly.

Just learned that we have family members thirty five miles south of Tokyo. No word from them. No way to reach them. Anyone know how that area fared in the quake and tsunami?
We are worried.

Thanks again, everyone.

Selene,

Some of my relatives are in Akishima, just outside of Tokyo. There are power outages and some reported phone problems in the areas surrounding Tokyo.

Most areas south of Tokyo are functioning almost normally and are having to deal with minor disruptions and inconveniences.

Some people were reportedly trapped in elevators for a period of time, but all seem to have been rescued.

More than likely, your relatives have not been able to contact you just because of the heavy phone traffic.

There is talk of rationing that has come up in regards to food, fuel, and electricity as Japan is having to deal with the compounded tragedy of the earthquake, the nuclear meltdowns, and now a volcano.

I also have relatives in Fukuoka (northern end of Kyushu) who said they didn't even feel the quake. My mom has been able to reach them with little difficulty.

If you still have not heard from your relatives, I invite you to e-mail me. I can have my mom talk to my Uncle Michio, and have him try and contact your family for you and relay information. He said that internal communications in Japan are good unless you are trying to reach those areas impacted directly by the tsunami.
